Did you get out and #exploremuhlenberg for National Take A Hike Day? Today’s adventure was at Lake Malone State Park on the quaint yet relaxing Laurel Trail. This easy 1.5 mile loop winds beneath sandstone out crops and above the picturesque lake shore. Strewn with pine and deciduous trees you will wind your way to a thicket of mountain laurel as you loop back to the park’s campground office. Along this well signed (non-blazed) maintained trail you will cross several new foot bridges as you follow the contour of the shoreline and walk amongst boulders, small rock houses, and outcrops. As you are walking remember to, (stop, look and listen) to the beauty that surrounds you. A short ascent and easy stroll will bring you back to the campground. If you start at Wildflower Trail you can easily add an additional .2 miles and pop out at the trailhead. Don’t be surprised if you feel like your being watched as several white tailed doe and their fawns carefully pay attention to your every step. So if your out on an leisurely drive remember to #parkithere and enjoy this one of twenty parks Muhlenberg County has to offer.
